Nouns/ Verbs/ Adjectives Visual Enforcer Freebie

I have spent the morning planning for the month of May.  I have several spring activities that focus on the parts of speech and sorting nouns/verbs/adjectives.  I realized that I don't have a visual enforcer to go along with them.  Soooo, today's gift is a one page sheet that describes the parts of speech to use as a reference or a visual enforcer.

You can find it here on TPT.  Pretty please if you grab it and enjoy it, leave feedback.

Happy Friday:)

Minimal Pairs Phonemic Awareness

I have several kiddos who have difficulty with minimal pairs.  These tricky sounds that only differ by voicing, give us a run for our money!  I created a matching activity to target discrimination between /p, b/ and /t, d/ using pictures of common objects.  I used this activity last week and began by having the student produce the target sound in isolation and "feeling" for voicing.  They are always amazed when they can feel their neck vibrate with /b/ and /d/!

Once students have a handle on which sound is voiced, they can match objects to the initial sound from a field of 2-4.  I always use a train as a visual enforcer and to ensure my kiddos remember where beginning sounds are. (this is included in the download)  Or you can create a pawprint puzzle with all four sounds!  To create a puzzle, print 4 copies of the blank pawprint and adhere to poster board.  Then attach velcro (or I like to use sticky putty) to paw print pieces.  Students can draw cards, match objects by initial sounds and use in a sentence!

I also laminated the paw prints with blank toes for extra practice.  Once laminated, students can use dry erase markers to write words or draw pictures of items beginning with the target sound.

You can find this activity on tPt here.

I also have been using a cute youtube video from TLC's Lively letters for /b and p/.  You can find that here on youtube.

Common Core Standards Aligned:
RF 2d. Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (consonant- vowel-consonant, or CVC) words.
RF 2c. Isolate and pronounce initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in spoken single- syllable words.

Happy minimal pairing!

Gnaw On My Paw Rhyming Activity Freebie

Since I am on spring break and spent the past few days with my favorite four-legged friend, it's paw print theme time!

Here is a cute FREE phonological awareness activity to help students identify rhyming words.  Of course, this is aligned to Common Core State Standards -RF 2a. Recognize and produce rhyming words.

Use the “rhyme train” as a great visual enforcer to help identify ending sounds in words.
Cut out all parts of paw prints.
•Have students match paw parts together by finding rhyming words.
Print multiple pages of page 14 as a “board” for students to place rhyming paws on.

This activity is great as a puzzle!  Print 4 blank boards and arrange on a poster board.  Print and cut all paw pieces with words on them.  Give students all pieces and have them work together to fill all the paw pieces on the puzzle to create 4 rhyming paws.
Use pages 9-13 for homework or as a branching strategy for students to create their own rhyming words.

You can find this activity here on tPt.
Enjoy!

Spring Category Freebie!

Finally Spring!!
I have been so excited for the warmer weather and so are my kiddos.  We have been talking a lot about seasons lately.  I created this cute category activity to target spring themed vocabulary and work on categorization.

I have used this matchup activity with my kindergarteners to target phonemic awareness skills.  They tap out the sounds in target words and then use process of elimination if they don't know which category the target word belongs to.

My older students are using this activity to expand expressive language by using the target words in a sentence.  All student can use the provided blank worksheets to fill out by recalling members of the categories, or by adding their own.

I hope you enjoy this freebie.  You can find it here on tPt.

Happy Spring:)
